Call for submissions for self/lust: a queer performance and art show

July 9, 2012

Call for submissions for
“self/lust: a queer performance and art show”

This is a call-out for queer (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirited, genderqueer, queer) artists and performers to showcase their artwork on the theme of self/lust, to be presented at a queer performance and art show to take place in Montreal sometime between August 10-13 as part of Pervers/cité.

We are looking for spoken word artists, poets, playwrights, storytellers, musicians, dancers, filmmakers, visual artists, zine-makers, radical knitters–any kind of artist and art-making.

*Art can be submitted and presented in any language.*

*Participating artists can also sell their art at the event.*

**We are also looking for people to help with tech support, door, an mc/host who speaks both English and French, as well as English to French translators for text.

Artists are asked to submit work that responds or relates to the theme of “self/lust,” which they can interpret in any way they choose.

**The SUBMISSION DEADLINE is July 31, 2012 at 11:59pm.

SEND SUBMISSIONS to Colleen and Ryan at:

-Your prefered name and pronoun(s).

-Your email address and if possible a phone number where we can reach you.

-A sample of the work you would like to show or perform (the work can be finished or in process). You can send samples as attachments (.doc, .pdf, .jpg, .wav, .avi, .wmv, etc.) or provide us with a link to your website/blog.

-A short artist statement/description of your work and how it represents, explores, questions, does and/or undoes the theme of self/lust.

-A short artist bio (to be posted on the event page and as an introduction to the artist at the event).

-If you are submitting work in a language other than English, please include an English translation of your artist statement/description of your work.

-If you would like to perform (music, poetry, etc.) or present a film, please indicate the length of the piece. In order that we can showcase as many artists as possible, it is preferable that performances/films are no longer than 15 minutes. (This time limit may change as it depends on the number of submissions we receive.) Visual and other artists can take this time to talk about their work.

-Please indicate your tech needs.

-If you are submitting a visual art piece (painting, installation, etc.), please indicate the amount of space you will need. **Visual art may be displayed either in the physical space or projected as images on a screen. The availability of space for visual art and art to be projected onto a screen (ex. films) is still to be confirmed.

-Indicate your availability for the timeframe of August 10-13, 2012. The event will take place on one of these days, sometime between 6-10 pm.

*Work must be ready to present by August 10, 2012.

**Artists who are presenting digital art (visual, films, etc.) and performers who have recorded music/sound should provide a DVD, CD, or USB key at the event.

*We will do our best to accommodate all art forms submitted to the show.

**We are committed to showcasing art by queer (lgbt2q) people who have multiple identities and experiences of marginalization, including queer people of colour, two-spirited people, multiracial and multiethnic queer people, non-status queer people, queer women, trans people, queer people with disabilities, working class queers, sex-working queers, fat queers, queer youth, and other queer people who have been marginalized within our communities.

**Within the context of this performance and art show, queer is used as an umbrella term to refer to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirited, genderqueer, gender non-binary, queer people and those who are marginalized on the basis of gender identity and/or sexual orientation, though some people who fall within this queer umbrella category may not self-identify as queer.

We are looking for translators!!!!!
